Martha Dawson Holistic Life Coach & Reiki Energy Practitioner Master of Arts Degree; Counseling Psychology Bachelors Degree; Health Sciences

My passion in helping others to succeed comes from my personal life journey which included unbelievable low points. That I am still breathing, lets me know first hand the spark of possibility within each of us. Beyond the veil of everyday reality is something greater and more powerful than we are even aware of. Each of us is a part of this powerful greatness and it is from that place that we are able to make something from nothing, exceed the expectations of who we are to become and triumph over tragedy. Through my own healing journey and personal development process I have learned that there is meaning to our lives beyond what we see. I have also learned to appreciate learning the hard  lessons of life in a way that is empowering and humbling.  Coaching clients to become their best selves so that they may experience all that life is constantly teaching and to move forward on solid foot without hesitation is what my work is all about. I serve as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. I maintain a private practice in Atlanta, GA but work with clients from all over the US by telephone.

My Coaching Style is “Collaborative, Solutions focused and Flexible” . I provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I also integrate coaching techniques and helpful assignments to offer a highly-personalized program tailored to you. With compassion and understanding, I work with you to help build on your strengths and attain the personal growth you are committed to achieving. When working with clients it is not unusual for me to create a unique blend of psychology, theories of energy medicine, core counseling practices, spirituality and good old fashioned intuitive wisdom to aid in the change, grow, process.

How I became a helping professional.

Nearly seven years ago I buried my first-born child. My son. For his entire life my focus, attention, and energy was devoted to loving him and keeping him alive. “I will not bury my son,” were words I uttered as prayers to my creator. So when the moment that I feared for six years actually became a reality, within my heart and entire being an energetic hole developed and heavy grief set into my spirit.

Cigarettes Saved My Life

Through my grief I fell into a state of deep depression. I could not eat. I slept no more than a few hours. My daily prayers were discarded because my faith was gone. I figured there was nothing left to pray about. I thought prayers to be useless.  Car horns, the telephone ringing, a toilet flushing –any of the normal sounds which go with daily life were all intrusive noises that I found hard to bare. The only thing I wanted to do was lay in bed. That I had lost any will to live was probably true except for one thing – my addiction to nicotine. It’s no doubt that my grief accompanied me to my smoke breaks but as the breaks became more frequent and the time spent away from my bed became longer, I was unknowingly taking the first steps to starting over.

How does this experience support my work as a Personal Life Coach?

In supporting my clients, I never stand in judgment about their decisions, choices, or the circumstances of their lives. The coaching relationship is never about the changes that I want clients to make. My question and concerns are about the changes and growth areas that the client wishes to see in their own lives.

Complicated Grief & the Turnaround

It took almost three years for me to actually lift my head above water. By then I had given birth to another child, a daughter. With the new life of my daughter, I began a healing journey that would be long and far from easy. Within these three years I was technically homeless, penniless and at a point found myself in places that I would not have in a million years thought I would be.  These experiences only complicated my grief. It was as if every step I made forward there were three or four other hands pulling me back.  When the pivotal moment came and I was stable enough to reflect over all that had happened I realized that professional help could have benefited me had I sought it out. It was at this point that I entered graduate school and began to study psychology and counseling theory. My goal at the time was to use what I was learning to continue to heal myself. In learning counseling principles and the theoretical concepts of the helping profession is how my desire to become a life coach began. This is the biggest chunk of my story and is the primary reason for my counseling, coaching and general helping nature. I look forward to connecting with you.
